Encounter (Rencontre)

I have in mind what guides my body,
These impulses, these wanderings, catch me without delay.
Light or shadow then play tricks on me,
As the flame dances in this curious setting.

Like a couple dancing in the midst of the crowd,
Here they come, these slightly tipsy ideas,
And I go stumbling like a celestial beggar,
Walking on the stars, pausing at a gesture.

And when she passes by, randomly on the street,
The curve of her spine carried by high heels,
Her face framed by blond hair,
My dream then navigates according to this sight.

She carries away with her my thoughts, my momentum,
Proud of having taken everything and given nothing
Except the burning desire that damns us both.
I must lift myself up when I am staggering,

A memory of love, a scent of a bodice,
And here comes back all the libertinage,
That will guide my steps and overcome drunkenness.
To approach her, to seduce her, and make her mine,

And there she is invited onto the paths of love,
Where she will feel how to tread them,
Going entwined and taking the detours,
Which lead better than God to eternal return.

The universe at her feet becomes reality,
The submissive goddess sees herself without remorse,
For she finally reigns by following her desire,
Revealing her beauty and vitality.
